Accounting Major (BBA)

Class Type: Classroom

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (BBA Accounting) program equips students to pursue a career in professional accounting. Graduates work in both the public and private sectors, as well as a diverse number of other disciplines such as consulting and governmental work. Accounting students are held to a high academic standard and must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. The academic rigor, coupled with the many internship opportunities and professional connections DBU offers, gives accounting majors the tools for excellent job placement and career advancement. If a student is interested in becoming a Certified Public Accountant, DBU offers a 5-year accelerated master’s program that fulfills Texas CPA requirements and prepares the student to sit for the examination.

The purpose of the major in Accounting is to equip students with an exceptional, Christ-centered education in accounting so that they can become ethical leaders in the global economy. We help students translate theory into practice with a focus on serving the needs of others. Our approach seeks to integrate the latest research with the timeless truths of Scripture to help students navigate the business world from a Christian perspective. We also have a strong internship network with accounting firms, and our 5-year BBA Accounting and MBA Accounting program offers a balance of accounting and management skills while still fulfilling the CPA exam’s educational requirements.

About DBU's Accounting Program

Graduates with a B.B.A. Accounting will demonstrate competence in the foundational areas of business and possess the technical skills and accounting knowledge necessary to assume an accounting role in many industries and business options. As per the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, the B.B.A. degree alone does not qualify a student to register for the CPA examination. Students interested in sitting for the exam should consider the accelerated 5-year B.B.A. and M.B.A. Accounting degrees.

In addition to the eleven common-core courses required of all B.B.A. degree programs, which include 6 hours of principles level accounting courses, accounting majors complete nine required upper-level accounting courses and one upper-level business elective.

Retention in and Graduation from the Accounting Program

Students must fulfill the following conditions to continue enrollment in the 4-year B.B.A. accounting major and graduate from the program:

  • Students must maintain an overall institutional GPA of 3.0 and an institutional GPA of 3.0 in upper-level accounting coursework.
  • Students must be advised by a full-time accounting professor before enrollment each semester.
