eMAT - Math Advising Tool
The eMAT is an aid for the mathematics department at DBU to evaluate the skills of DBU students wishing to enroll in math or math-based courses for the first time. The eMAT uses the ALEKS PPL assessment to determine what you know in math in order to make sure you have enough math knowledge to be successful in the course you need to take.
Depending on the course you want to take, you may or may not need to take the eMAT. Students with sufficient SAT, ACT, and other scores may be able to enroll in math or math-based courses without taking the eMAT (for more information, see the FAQs on this page or talk with your advisor). Enrolling in a math or math-based course that you are not prepared for will not be beneficial and will cause you to be frustrated and unsuccessful in the class.
Students should take the eMAT ALEKS Assessment before they attend NPO (orientation and registration) at DBU. All ALEKS assessments are proctored. You may take the assessment up to five times if you do not reach the score you need, but ALEKS requires a 24-hour waiting period between attempts and at least 3 hours of work in the learning modules before you can try again. For this reason, start several weeks in advance so you have time to study without rushing. ALEKS access is included in your DBU student fees for one year; after one year, continued access requires an additional fee.
Class Requirements
To enroll in the desired math or math-based course, you will need to meet at least one of the following class requirements:

By taking the ALEKS assessment you agree to follow the University Honor Code and abide by the University’s Academic Appeal and Academic Misconduct Procedure as stated in the Student Handbook and the Schedule of Classes.
Note: You will need to log into your MyDBU account to access the test.
