Math Advising Tool (MAT)

The Math Advising Tool is an aid for instructors in the mathematics department at Dallas Baptist University to evaluate the skills of DBU students wishing to enroll in mathematics courses for the first time at DBU and meet general studies requirements for their degree.

The MAT consists of three versions of exams: Arithmetic Skills, Basic Algebra, and Advanced Algebra. Each exam consist of questions that assist the faculty in advising the students on which courses in mathematics should be taken to meet their general studies degree requirements.

To view any study guides, please choose the exam you wish to study for, and click the link for that study guide.

To take the MAT, click on “Take Test.” You will be prompted for your user name and password. If you do not know your username and password, click the link “Get my user name and password.”

After you log-in, you will be given the option to take the test right away, or take the test later. If you choose to take the test later, this will give you the opportunity to study for the exam you will be taking.

If you do not pass the version you take, you may retake it. You are permitted to take each version of the MAT three times. You must wait 48 hours between the first and second time you take it, and wait one week between the second and third time you take the exam.

Be prepared to spend at least an hour and a half when you click the link to take the test.

By clicking the “Take Test” button you agree to follow the University Honor Code and abide by the University’s Academic Appeal and Academic Misconduct Procedure as stated in the Student Handbook and the Schedule of Classes.
