Privacy Policy

Dallas Baptist University (DBU) respects your privacy. DBU makes every reasonable effort to ensure the confidentiality and security of your information. Ensuring privacy is important to the University, and the following policy will detail the ways in which we try to safeguard the privacy of your information.

Student Educational Records

DBU complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which generally prohibits the release of student educational records without student permission.

Information Usage

In the course of using the DBU website or any of its affiliated sites, visitors can choose to provide information to the University via web forms, email, or other electronic means. For instance, this may happen when a prospective student requests a campus visit, when a donor makes a donation on the website, or when someone requests information about one of our academic programs. Personally identifiable information submitted via these means will only be used for DBU-related purposes. The University does not intend to sell this private contact information to any outside entity.

Any personal information that you provide will be accessed or shared only for purposes necessary to serve your needs or as required by applicable law. Information may be stored and analyzed to help us improve the services we provide.

DBU takes reasonable measures to protect the information that we collect. We use industry-standard SSL encryption where applicable on our web forms.

Server Logs, Cookies and E-mail Tracking

Like most institutions and organizations, DBU may use server logs and/or various other technologies like cookies, JavaScript and session identifiers to collect information about your internet connection, browsers and general information about your visit to our websites. Such information may be analyzed to detect traffic patterns and identify areas of service improvement. We do not generally monitor or track individual users unless we are investigating a specific technical issue or we suspect illegal activity.

DBU uses third party tracking technologies to analyze website traffic, online behavior, and gather names and email addresses of users. Information automatically collected by third parties may be used by third parties, among other things, to analyze and track data, to solicit donations, to deliver advertising or content on other websites based on your prior activities on this or other sites or targeted to your interests, and to better understand the usage and visitation of our sites and the other sites tracked by these third parties. To manage settings for the Google advertising cookies and to opt-out of certain features, visit their Ad Settings.

eCommerce Sites

Some DBU websites allow you to pay for products or make a donation online with a credit card or other electronic payment mechanism. DBU makes every effort to protect personal information that it collects from conducting business. When processing E-commerce transactions, such as credit card, debit card or ACH payments, DBU has taken great efforts to process these transactions in the most secure means possible.

By policy, Dallas Baptist University itself does not collect personal information like credit card numbers; instead, we partner with an outside service provider that collects the information and processes the transactions on our behalf. The policy specifies that the provider must be PCI DSS certified, which means that it has demonstrated its systems and procedures meet the stringent security standards of the payment card industry. The provider is also required to certify in writing that it will keep this information confidential and, will not share it with any party unless that party needs it to complete the transaction. The personal financial information collected by these means is only used for DBU related purposes and is not sold to outside vendors. This information is protected in accordance with local, state, and federal law.
