Spanish Major (BA)

The value of knowing Spanish cannot be underrated. Spanish has close to 500 million speakers worldwide and is the most used official language in international communication, second only to English. Whether you make your mark in the U.S. or abroad, knowing Spanish opens countless doors in the social, educational, professional, political, and ministerial fields.

DBU's Department of Spanish focuses our advanced courses on three essential pillars: language, literature, and culture. The diverse list of Spanish courses and service-learning opportunities offers a deeper understanding of the language, its people, and their worldview. Through years of living and working in Hispanic countries, DBU's Spanish faculty bring a linguistic and cultural experience to the classroom that encourages undergraduate students to look beyond their textbooks and into the heart of the Hispanic people.

Travel Opportunities

In addition to mission trips, DBU periodically offers students travel opportunities to earn course credit.

Sigma Delta Pi, National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society

Sigma Delta Pi (SDP) is a National Honor Society honoring students that seek excellence in the study of Spanish. By being a member of Sigma Delta Pi, the largest foreign language Honor Society, students represent a diverse organization that has been in existence for more than 100 years and give students a range of opportunities through their college years and beyond. Psi Gamma is the DBU Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, and to represent SDP at DBU is to be part of a growing community of Spanish students that know Spanish is an important tool in God´s plan for their life.
