DBU Responds

COVID-19 has taken a toll on the healthcare system in more ways than one. Direct implications of COVID-19 on medical operations are familiar to most. However, the healthcare system is also suffering from a variety of indirect repercussions of the quarantine.

According to Carter BloodCare, about one-third of local blood banks’ annual blood supply is provided by area Universities and High Schools. Campus closures and cancelled student activities have created a major disruption within the critical blood supply.

At DBU, we desire to be an institution driven by service and characterized by love. So much of the current crisis response is restricted to healthcare professionals. However, each of us has the ability to directly engage with the diminishing blood supply.

Historically, the DBU Responds campaign has organized the University’s response to external crises through tangible acts of service. In 2017 the campaign mobilized in response to Hurricane Harvey.

Today, DBU’s Student Government Association and Center for Mentoring are leading an initiative to address the diminished critical blood supply. We ask that those within the DBU Family who are healthy and able, give blood in response to this need. This is a call to both our local and global family.

We are specifically seeking your help in four areas:
