DBU REPORT 30 Madison Franquiz, a DBU graduate student currently working on dual MA in Communications and MA in Christian Ministries degrees, recently was named to the United Nations World Literacy Task Force and as its first Youth Ambassador. On September 14, she provided the keynote address for the official launch of this task force. “It is in part my privilege, responsibility, and calling to advocate for children to have access to the resources they need and the books they deserve to live an imaginative DBU GRADUATE STUDENT MADISON FRANQUIZ SPEAKS AT THE UNITED NATIONS and full life,” explained Madison. “Literacy is truly foundational for human flourishing.” Madison is no stranger to the spotlight, having formerly competed in the 2022 Miss Texas Competition, representing North Texas. She is also currently completing work on her ninth children’s book. The UN World Literacy Taskforce has the mission of eradicating illiteracy in 10 underserved cities in the U.S. as it seeks to align its efforts with Corporate America for the shared strategic intent of collaborating to boost literacy. She is also continuing her work with the World Literacy Foundation, an organization focused on the development of literacy skills globally. In April, she will be presenting at the World Literacy Summit in Oxford, England to global leaders, dignitaries, and multinational corporations from 85 countries on the vital importance of improving literacy levels around the world. DBU LAUNCHES VIRTUAL TOUR FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS Through a partnership with YouVisit, DBU recently launched a virtual tour that allows individuals to “step onto” University Hill without leaving their home. Users of this platform are able to not only explore the various buildings around campus but also understand the unique aspects that make up a DBU education, including our focus on being Christ-centered in everything we do, training up the next generation of servant leaders, seeking to provide a transformative educational experience, creating a genuine community of faith for all members of the DBU Family, and maintaining a focus on making a global impact in our work, all for the glory of God.
