Scholarships are one of the best ways to help pay for college, and the great thing is there are many places where scholarships can be found! 

DBU has many internal scholarships available to our incoming students - take a look at which ones you may be eligible for!

Christian Service Scholarship

The Christian Service Scholarship is valued at $3,000 per academic year for qualifying students. Students who receive the Christian Service Scholarship demonstrate Christian character and are involved in their church, school and community. Eligibility for the Christian Service Scholarship is determined by the information provided on the student's application for admission.

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Enroll in and successfully complete the DBU Christian Leadership course during the first year of enrollment
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student
  • During the first few weeks of each semester, declare an area of ministry for that semester (online forms will be provided)
  • Be involved (for at least six hours per month) in a volunteer service or ministry activity
  • Complete and submit all Ministry Journal requirements each month
  • Live on campus
  • Maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average
  • Maintain moral and ethical standards that would be exemplary of the life of Christ
Academic Scholarships

Eligibility for the Academic Scholarships is determined by the information provided on the student's application for admission.

Scholarships Available:

  • Patriot Award | $4,000/year

    Typical recipients have:

    • Average GPA of 3.00
    • At least a 21 ACT, 1100 SAT, or 71 CLT score
    • Rank in the top 50% of their class

  • Patriot Honor Award | $6,000/year

    Typical recipients have:

    • Average GPA of 3.4
    • At least a 23 ACT, 1140 SAT, or 75 CLT score
    • Rank in the top 50% of their class

  • Dean's Award | $8,000/year

    Typical recipients have:

    • Average GPA of 3.65
    • At least a 24 ACT, 1180 SAT, or 77 CLT score
    • Rank in the top 25% of their class

  • Dean's Honor Award | $10,000/year

    Typical recipients have:

    • Average GPA of 3.65
    • At least a 26 ACT, 1240 SAT, or 82 CLT score
    • Rank in the top 20% of their class

  • Presidential Scholar Award | $12,000/year

    Typical recipients have:

    • Average GPA of 3.95
    • At least a 28 ACT, 1310 SAT, or 87 CLT score
    • Rank in the top 10% of their class
Christian Leadership Scholarship

Dallas Baptist University values a commitment to follow Jesus Christ, and students who have demonstrated significant Christian leadership may apply for additional aid. The Christian Leadership Scholarship requires an interview and two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a church, and the other from a teacher. You can contact your admissions counselor or the CLS Office (clsapp@dbu.edu) for details on how to complete this scholarship.

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Be accepted to DBU
  • Be a recipient of the Christian Service Scholarship
University Honors Program

$10,000-$14,000 per year based on high school GPA, test scores, and interview.

Eligibility for the University Honors Program Scholarship is determined by the DBU Application for Admission, the University Honors Program Application, and requires admittance/enrollment into the University Honors Program. For more information, visit the University Honors Program website.

Chapel Worship

Amount Varies.

Students admitted to DBU after Fall 2021 who participate in the DBU Chapel Worship Team are eligible for this scholarship. Audition required.

Baptist Student Ministry

$1,000 per year

Incoming transfer students who enroll after Fall 2021 and were active members of the Baptist Student Ministry at their former institution may qualify. Recommendation from BSM Director required.

Phi Theta Kappa

The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is awarded to new transfer students meeting eligibility requirements. Students living on campus may be awarded $5,000.00 per Fall and Spring semester and commuter students may be awarded $1,000 per Fall and Spring semester

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Be a member in good standing in Phi Theta Kappa
  • Enroll in and successfully complete the DBU Christian Leadership course during the first year of enrollment
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student
  • Be involved (for at least six hours per month) in a volunteer service or ministry activity
  • Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), DBU Supplemental Application for Financial Aid, and any other required paperwork, as requested
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
  • Maintain moral and ethical standards that would be exemplary of the life of Christ
Transfer Commuter

This scholarship is awarded by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to new transfer students who do not plan to live on campus. Each scholarship provides $2,000 per semester for full-time students toward tuition only.

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Meet all DBU admission requirements as stated in the current DBU Undergraduate Catalog
  • Transfer from a regionally-accredited institution
  • Be enrolled as a full-time commuter student
  • Be an incoming student not currently enrolled at DBU
  • Complete the Transfer Commuter Scholarship application, write a 250-word typed essay stating their enrollment, academic, and Christian goals while attending DBU
  • Maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average
  • Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), DBU Supplemental Application for Financial Aid, and any other required paperwork, as requested
Honors Scholars Academy

$5,000 (over 4 years)

Students who completed courses through DBU’s dual-credit program, the Honors Scholars Academy, and enrolled in DBU after high school in Fall 2021 or later are eligible to receive the Honors Scholars Academy Scholarship.

Private Grants and Scholarships

We know you can’t do your best academically if you are worried about financing your education. That is why we created DBU’s Office of Grants and Scholarships. If you are a currently enrolled student or a prospective student who has paid your enrollment fee, schedule a time to meet and discuss available financing options with our caring staff. You will learn more about the wide selection of vetted private scholarship and grant programs listed in your MyDBU account.

There are more opportunities for financial help out there than you might think, and we want you to help you find them. Ultimately, we want to help you fund your education, so you can be successful as a DBU student and in your calling beyond graduation day.  

Maintaining Your Scholarship

Living on campus allows students to be fully engaged in the DBU experience. On-campus residency is required for all DBU Scholarships except the Transfer Commuter scholarship.
