DBU Named to President’s Community Service Honor Roll for Sixth Consecutive Year

March 30, 2012 | by Kalie Lowrie

Dallas, TX – Dallas Baptist University has been named to the 2012 U.S. President’s Community Service Honor Roll for the sixth consecutive year. DBU received this honor in recognition of its efforts to instill a spirit of servant leadership in each of its students.

DBU was one of 23 colleges from the state of Texas and approximately 600 institutions across the nation to be honored. More than 4,450 DBU students participated in approximately 140,000 hours of community service during 2011. Activities ranged from serving food at the H-E-B Feast of Sharing to art restoration for the Dallas Museum of Biblical Art.

Honorees are chosen based upon a series of selection factors including scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses.

Every degree at DBU has at least one service-learning component which integrates academic instruction, community service, and guided reflection from a Christ-centered, faith-based perspective in order to enhance student learning, to foster global civic responsibility, and to develop servant leaders. All courses play an important role in providing the student with an appropriate curricular foundation for service-learning.

Additionally, student-athletes participate in community service through the Global Sports Mission Initiative, where they have been involved in local and global projects.
