Employment

F-1 students, are allowed to work off-campus only if you have first received special authorization from USCIS.  Special Authorization is not needed for on-campus employment.  On-campus employment is limited to part-time (20 hours or less per week) during the fall and spring semesters.  On-campus employment may be full-time (up to 40 hours per week) during the summer and official school breaks.  When you work on-campus, you must maintain your full-time student status or your employment will become illegal.

Optional Practical Training

Optional Practical Training (OPT) allows F-1 Visa Students to work inside the United States for 12 months after graduation.  OPT must be filed through USCIS during your last semester at least one week before graduation.

Curricular Practical Training

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows students to engage in internships or practicums that are integral to their academic program. (Currenlty available for MBA and MAM students only.)

Severe Economic Hardship

Severe Economic Hardship is available to you if you have a severe, unforeseen, economic difficulty while studying in the United States on an F-1 visa.
