F-1 Travel Tips
Adapted from SEVP Operating Instructions
What are the basic requirements for an F-1 to reenter the United States after traveling abroad for pleasure or personal business?
A current SEVIS Form I-20 signed for travel in the DBU International Office.
A status letter from the DBU International Office.
A current passport valid for at least six months after the date of your reentry.
A valid, current visa.
Proof of necessary funds to cover tuition and living expenses.
Reentry
Note: You must have been out of the United States less than five months.
Canada and Mexico
For land entry "contiguous country" have a valid passport, visa, I-20, and Status Letter.
Be sure to receive new I-94 with "F-1 D/S" written on it.
Overseas (by flight)
Give up I-94 when boarding plane. Please check the airport guidelines for more information.
Carry a valid passport, visa, I-20, and Status Letter.
Be sure to receive new I-94 with "F-1 D/S" written on it.
