The menu includes sandwiches, pizza, chips, soft drinks, coffee, and candy. In addition to those items, the Dr Pepper Soda Shoppe now serves soups, pastries, cookies, hot dogs, chili dogs, "grab-n-go" salads, yogurt, Blue Bell Ice Cream, milkshakes, malts, and fruit smoothies. The Shoppe’s featured novelty is the Dr Pepper Chocolate-Chocolate Shake.
How it was all put together…
Over a year ago, DBU Executive Vice President, Dr. Blair Blackburn, came up with the idea of renovating the Daily Bread Bistro into a 50's soda fountain. DBU Coordinator of Auxiliary Services, John Adams, spearheaded the design development of the new retro restaurant concept. The remodeling project was completed this August by DBU’s Physical Operations Department.
Details of the decorations
The body work, paint, fabrication, and mounting of the '58 Chevy Pickup that you see on one of the Shoppe’s walls, was restored by Robert Erickson, DBU Director of Physical Operations.
The Dr Pepper memorabilia decorated all around the shop was made possible through donations by the Dr Pepper Bottling Company of Texas and Dr. Blackburn. The tables, stools, and booths were purchased through Nostalgia Warehouse, which is located in Mansfield, Texas. They are one of the only suppliers in the country the makes this type of furniture decor.
