The Institute for Music Business
The Music Business offers you great career potential – if you’re ready . . .
Dramatic changes and restructuring within the Music Industry have created a wealth of career opportunities for a new type of professional who understands not only music and recording, but also economics, accounting, marketing and the law. To succeed in today’s Music Business, you have to know what you are doing. And knowing what you are doing is all about a quality education.
We get you ready by offering you the right education - in the Business of Music . . .
Here, at DBU, you can choose among three different degree plans the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Business Administration - all with a major in Music Business. Each degree includes the main things you need to know for any successful career in the Music Business - music, business, and entertainment industry expertise. Plus, they all teach you how to work for yourself as an entrepreneur – a real advantage for anyone going into the Music Business these days.
But, which program is right for you? Well, it depends on where you want to go with your career. For example, if you want to be a concert artist, studio musician, recording engineer, record label A&R executive or professional songwriter, take a look at either the Bachelor of Arts in Music Business or the Bachelor of Science in Music Business, two programs that emphasize the development of musical skills and knowledge.
On the other hand, if you want a career as an entertainment attorney, business manager, talent agent, concert promoter or retail music store owner, to name a few, check out our newest degree - the Bachelor of Business Administration in Music Business, a program that features a broad business education. No matter where you want to go in the music industry, we have the plan to get you ready.
And that’s not all . . .
The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex commands national attention in the entertainment business. In addition to both television production and state-of-the-art recording facilities at Las Colinas, numerous other recording studios, booking agents, concert promoters, commercial production houses and major performance venues are located in the area.
Because of DBU’s close proximity to the D/FW Music Industry, all of our degrees in Music Business offer students the opportunity of actually working in the industry. During the senior year, Music Business majors may apply for an internship with a local business that matches their area of interest. It’s a distinct advantage.

According to Paul McCartney, even the Beatles
"... were pretty neatly ripped off because they didn't know
anything about the business."
Dr. Fansler has the qualifications to direct the Institute for Music Business. In addition to holding academic degrees in vocal performance and musicology, he spent 15 years in the entertainment business as a professional musical entertainer and producer.
