Dr. Andrew Schaffer teaches finance and law classes in the College of Business. Dr. Schaffer earned a B.B.A. with dual majors in Finance and Financial Services from Baylor University, and subsequently earned a Juris Doctor and M.B.A from Texas Tech University. Here, he focused his studies on community property, estate planning, and taxation. Coupling his experience with finance and the legal system, Dr. Schaffer began working in the Family Wealth and Financial Planning unit of Arthur Andersen, advising and providing analysis and financial planning for the senior executives of what is now Verizon Wireless. He then became a financial advisor at Fidelity Investments, specializing in retirement and estate planning before transitioning into his academic career as a professor at DBU.

Dr. Shaffer holds firm to the belief that he has a calling on his life to invest in the next generation. Living out this calling as a professor sparked in him the idea to write and publish a book assisting recent college graduates in making financially wise decisions. In 2016, he published Financial Planning for College Graduates and updated that to a 2nd edition in 2020. Dr. Shaffer met his wife of 30 years, Elizabeth, while at Baylor, and they now have two grown daughters, Lydia and Lila.
