Stoa NITOC Placement Scholarship
This scholarship is intended to recognize speech and debate students for the outstanding rhetorical excellence that is required to participate in/achieve recognition at Stoa's National Invitational Tournament of Champions (NITOC).
Open To
Full-time, undergraduate students living on campus at DBU.
Scholarship Amount
The Stoa NITOC Placement Scholarship has seven tiers ranging in value from $750 to $25,000 per academic year for qualifying students. These tiers are non-stackable and default to the highest overall tier that the student has earned across all years that they have qualified for/participated in NITOC. These tiers are detailed below:
- NITOC Tournament Champion: $25,000 per year/$100,000 over four years
- NITOC Sweepstakes Champion: $25,000 per year/$100,000 over four years
- NITOC Second Place Tournament Champion: $20,000 per year/$80,000 over four years
- NITOC Third Place Tournament Champion: $15,000 per year/$60,000 over four years
- NITOC Event (Speech or Debate) Champion: $12,500 per year/$50,000 over four years
- NITOC Event (Speech or Debate) Finalist (2nd through 8th place): $6,250 per year/$25,000 over four years
- Founders Award: $2,000 per year/$8,000 over four years
- NITOC Participation: $750 per year/$3,000 over four years
The Stoa NITOC Placement Scholarship is limited to eight full-time semesters, is applicable to tuition charges only, and is reviewed annually.
How to Apply
Students must qualify for and/or participate/place in Stoa's National Invitational Tournament of Champions (NITOC) in order to be considered for this scholarship. Specific tiers are awarded as they correspond to the student's highest overall placement at NITOC.
Specific Requirements
Proof of NITOC participation/placement should be readily available via:
- the physical certificate presented to the student upon receiving their award,
- video of their being awarded the scholarship at the NITOC award ceremony,
- confirmation from Stoa's Executive Director, and/or
- Speechranks records.
Be involved (for at least six hours per month) in a volunteer service or ministry activity
Maintaining this Scholarship
To remain eligible for Music Scholarships, eligible students must:
- Progress toward the completion of their program of study at a rate that will ensure graduation is a reasonable length of time (meet Satisfactory Academic Progress).
- Maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
- Maintain moral and ethical standards that would be exemplary of the life of Christ.
