Baptist General Convention of Texas & DBU Ministerial Scholarship

Dallas Baptist University (DBU), in partnership with the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT), offers financial assistance to qualifying undergraduate ministry students pursuing vocational or bi-vocational ministry. These scholarships are coordinated through the Ministry Guidance Office and are intended to support students who demonstrate a clear call to ministry and a lifestyle reflective of Christian principles.

Open To

  • Full-time or part-time undergraduate and graduate students
  • Students pursuing a major or minor in Biblical Studies, Christian Studies, Christian Ministries, Intercultural Studies (Missions), or Philosophy (as a major)
  • Students preparing for a career in vocational or bi-vocational ministry
  • Active members of their home Baptist church holding Jesus as Lord and Savior and the Bible as sacred Scripture
  • Students with a divine call to ministry, sincere commitment to church-related ministry, and endorsement from their home church

BGCT Ministry Scholarship Amount/Limitations

  • First-Year Undergraduate BGCT Ministry Scholarship and DBU Match: $50 per semester hour (total of $100 per credit hour)  for students attending a Baptist church and pursuing a College of Christian Faith degree.
  • Second-Year Undergraduate BGCT Ministry Scholarship and DBU Match: $50 per semester hour (total of $100 per credit hour)  for students attending a BGCT church and pursuing a College of Christian Faith degree.
  • Junior and Senior Undergraduate BGCT Ministry Scholarship and DBU Match: $75 per semester hour (total of $150 per credit hour) for students attending a BGCT church and pursuing a College of Christian Faith degree
  • Other Baptist and non-Baptist undergraduate ministerial students: $50 per credit hour from DBU when pursuing a College of Christian Faith degree. 
  • Master Student BGCT Ministry Scholarship and DBU Match: $100 per credit hour (total of $200 per credit hour)  for students attending a BGCT church and pursuing a College of Christian Faith degree
  • Doctoral Student BGCT Ministry Scholarship and DBU Match: $150 per credit hour (total of $300per credit hour)  for students attending a BGCT church and pursuing a College of Christian Faith degree

How to Apply

Students must complete the Ministry Scholarship Application once per academic year (Fall, Spring, Summer semesters).

  • Application Deadlines:
    • 30 days after the start of each long semester
    • June 1 for summer terms
  • Endorsement from home church
  • Evidence of a divine call to ministry and sincere commitment to a church-related ministry career
  • Demonstration of Christian lifestyle and values
  • Affiliation with either a BGCT church (for BGCT Ministry Scholarship) or a qualifying Christian church (for DBU Ministerial Scholarship)
  • Applications are submitted online through the Ministry Guidance Office.

Maintaining these Scholarships

  • Students must renew their application annually
  • Maintain specific GPA requirements (SAP)
  • Continue active participation in a qualifying church
  • Maintain moral and ethical standards exemplary of the life of Christ
  • To receive the DBU Matching Scholarship as student must be enrolled in an on-campus program.
