Bio

As an only child and pastors' kid, Carter grew up in close and consistent proximity to a large community. A love for God and people began to take flesh in the pursuit of a Christian Studies degree at DBU. Within his first semester at DBU, Carter realized that the vocation of ministry was not his calling. Instead - the Lord revealed that Carter could spread the gospel through any career as long as he was leaning into those aptitudes that were God-given.

After a switch to the field of Communications and a career in Student Life & Admissions on campus, Carter began to pursue both a doctorate and a passion to teach. Carter's dissertation is themed around the relationship between teaching effectiveness and charisma - arguing that an ability to connect to students is just as important as academic acumen. Carter views the Master's in Communication and any classroom in which he professes as a cooking class. Anyone can enjoy food, and many do. Understanding how to create the meal and attune each dish to those who intend to consume it is not only the core passion/skillset of a chef - but metaphorically the difference between someone who enjoys people and someone who is a communications expert.
