A Trip to Prison! (And Back!)

Venus, TX — DBU’s Center for Business as Mission and over 30 entrepreneurship, criminal justice, and sociology students recently attended a business Think Tank Event at Sanders Estes Unit Prison. As part of the Prison Entrepreneurship Program (PEP), students had the opportunity to sit one-on-one with inmates, listen to their ideas for starting businesses after their release from prison, and provide feedback.

Lion’s U Engages Aspiring Business Leaders at DBU

This month DBU students had the opportunity to attend Lion’s U, a three-day conference in conjunction with Lion’s Den DFW, that allowed inspiring business leaders the opportunity to learn how they can integrate their faith with their careers. Students heard from a variety of BAM (Business as Mission) leaders, including business professors, authors, and professionals in the field. Throughout the event attendees networked, interviewed, and engaged with these speakers as well as other business professionals.

Movement DFW 2019 Hosted by DBU

The event was initially hosted in Manhattan in 2010 by Movement.org. Four years later, Movement DFW was launched as the first global expansion city of the movement after a conversation between Mac Pier, Tim Keller, and Bob Doll. Movement DFW came to fruition out of root challenges facing the city.

The Great Commission for the Rest of Us

Pastors and mission organization spokespersons often quote Jesus’ final words to his disciples in Matthew 28 as a challenge to those called by God to serve him in a foreign land as vocational missionaries. A person’s final words before departing carry significant weight and Jesus’ final words to his disciples are no different.

"This was not part of my plan, but it was a problem that needed addressing. I’ve learned that entrepreneurs recognize opportunities and take action, even when that takes them way outside their comfort zones."
