Sharing the Good News: Emery Saltzman Creates The Good News Paper

Shaped by a passion for spreading the Gospel, Dallas Baptist University student, Emery Saltzman, creates a newspaper called The Good News Paper, dedicated to sharing the good news and encouraging others in their faith.

Emery was raised in a Christian home and recalls how her family attended every church event they could. While attending a Vacation Bible School program in second grade, Emery gave her life to Christ, and later, she began to realize that her faith was more than attending church services and events—it was a relationship between her and Christ.

As Emery strengthened her relationship with the Lord, she felt God calling her to a career in ministry. Emery soon started searching for universities that offered ministry programs, which led to a tour at DBU, where she instantly fell in love with the campus and its Christ-centered environment.

After joining the DBU Family as a student, Emery began serving as a Resident Assistant in the Crowley Complex, made lifelong friendships, and was encouraged to grow her faith through each event, class, and walk on campus. "There wasn't a moment or place on campus that I didn't feel God's presence," Emery shares. As she interacted with faculty and staff members, fellow students, and colleagues, worshiped in Chapel Services, and saw the various verses around campus, Emery was constantly reminded of the Lord's presence.

Through serving her residents, colleagues, and others she encountered on University Hill, Emery highlights how her passion for evangelism grew. As she witnessed Christ's love in each person she met at DBU, Emery desired to be able to extend the love of Jesus to everyone God placed in her path.

Entering into her senior year at DBU, Emery's passion for evangelism continued to grow, with the hope that she could encourage others in the DFW area and beyond through a newspaper filled with good news.

The creation of The Good News Paper evolved from Emery's passion for sharing the Gospel, and two moments that sparked the idea—reading the trivia section of a newspaper with a friend and later coming across the words, "good news," in the Bible.

As these two moments clicked in Emery's mind, the idea formed of combining the two into one newspaper. The Good News Paper became something that would portray only positivity to its readers in a physical newspaper, and the style of the paper would be inspired by Emery's love of vintage pieces, including old books, record players, vinyl, and film cameras.

Each issue of the newspaper includes testimonies, devotionals, games, and weekly challenges for readers to participate in. Emery shares that future issues of The Good News Paper will also include news articles from the local DFW area, highlighting the good things happening in the community.

Through The Good News Paper, Emery's hope is that each reader walks away knowing the truth of who Jesus is. For those who might be struggling to see the good around them, Emery prays they walk away knowing that God is good, and for those who may not know Christ, that a seed will be planted to bring them closer to the Lord.

Within the few months of the newspaper's creation, Emery has already seen it make a positive impact as people have reached out to encourage the growth of the paper. "They're so willing to help share the Gospel, which just shows that our generation is truly living for Jesus," Emery says.

Emery is currently pursuing a degree in Christian Studies at DBU, with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2027. She married her husband, Landon Saltzman, a DBU alumnus who is pursuing his master's degree at the University, in Spring 2026. The couple attends First Baptist Dallas, where Emery serves as a Children's Ministry Intern.

As The Good News Paper releases its first issue this Fall, Emery hopes that it will continue to grow, and that the Lord will use it to spread the Gospel wherever it reaches.
