Developing Professionals Through DBU’s Criminal Justice Degree Program

With the goal of solving and deterring crime while promoting peace and safety, Dallas Baptist University's Criminal Justice program gives undergraduate students the opportunity to integrate their faith with a passion for criminal justice and human services.

The Criminal Justice program allows students to study crime and the agencies concerned with its prevention and control through a B.A. or B.S. degree or as a minor. While studying this field, DBU aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success after graduation.

As part of the Criminal Justice program, students have access to the William B. Dean, M.D. Institute for Criminal Justice Leadership, which fosters engagement through the education and training of students; provides learning opportunities through conferences, symposiums, workshops, and certification programs; and provides students with the opportunity to complete additional certification or degree programs.

Led by Program Director Dr. John Fisher and professors with real-life experience in the criminal justice and human services fields, students learn from professionals with valuable insight into how they can be successful while applying their faith in a complex justice system.

Striving to prepare students for every situation, the program is built upon Divine Truth and Christian doctrines, and combines course knowledge with Christian ethics. "The Institute's goal is to bring Christ-centered servant leadership to the criminal justice community," shares Dr. John Fisher, Director of the William B. Dean, M.D. Institute for Criminal Justice Leadership. DBU ensures that students leave the program not only with the knowledge and skills needed for their future roles, but also with an understanding of how to think and act in their positions through the guidance of God's love and His standards.

Alongside the knowledge received in the classroom, DBU students have the opportunity to apply what they have learned as they work with real investigators, prosecutors, analysts, and fellow students to solve real cases and investigations, including those with missing and exploited persons.

Graduates of DBU's Criminal Justice program pursue careers in law enforcement, the judicial system, corrections, homeland and organizational security, social services, and juvenile justice, or preparation for graduate-level programs or law school.

Staying true to DBU's mission of developing servant leaders, the Criminal Justice program continues to equip graduates to serve the Lord and those around them as they maintain order, security, and peace.
