DBU and Lipscomb University Announce Engineering Articulation Agreement

Dallas Baptist University and Lipscomb University have entered into an articulation agreement designed to expand opportunities for DBU engineering students and provide a pathway for Associate of Engineering graduates to complete a four-year engineering degree at Lipscomb University.

Through this agreement, Lipscomb Engineering will serve as a receiving school for DBU Associate of Engineering (AE) graduates. DBU AE graduates may apply to Lipscomb and continue their studies toward the completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

The agreement, first conceived in February 2024 and completed in February 2026, reflects a shared commitment between DBU and Lipscomb to advance Christ-centered higher education and prepare students to serve faithfully in their chosen fields.

The partnership began after Lipscomb University President Dr. Candice McQueen learned about DBU's engineering articulation agreement with Baylor University. Inspired by the opportunity to pursue a similar partnership, Dr. McQueen contacted DBU President Dr. Adam C. Wright to explore how Lipscomb and DBU could work together to provide additional pathways for engineering students.

Dr. Wright recognized the opportunity to further expand options for DBU students and initiated the process that led to the new agreement with Lipscomb. Through the collaboration of academic, legal, and administrative leaders at both universities, the agreement was brought to completion.

At DBU, the agreement was supported by University leadership, the Office of the Provost, the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, legal counsel, and academic representatives who helped ensure the integrity of the pathway for DBU students. At Lipscomb, the agreement was developed in partnership with university leadership, academic leaders in engineering, and legal counsel.

Jones College of Engineering, along with Dr. Owen Schipplein from DBU's Associate of Engineering program in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, for their collaboration in crafting this strong pathway for our engineering students to continue their preparation at a like-minded, Christ-centered institution," said Dr. Dion Fleitas, Dean of DBU's College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Dr. Owen Schipplein, Professor of Engineering and Director of DBU's Associate of Engineering Program, added, "I want to thank Dr. Wright for his vision, leadership, and influence in Christian higher education, as well as Dr. McQueen for her friendship toward DBU. I am also grateful for the leadership of Dr. Norma Hedin, Provost, and Dr. Fleitas, Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, along with the expertise of Christa Van Der Merwe, DBU's General Counsel, whose efforts brought this articulation agreement to completion. This partnership will create many new opportunities for our engineering students."

The purpose of the agreement is to make more opportunities available to DBU Associate of Engineering graduates by providing a new pathway for them to continue their education at a like-minded institution of Christian higher education. Through this partnership, Lipscomb University can now help DBU students continue toward the completion of a four-year degree in engineering.

For DBU students, the agreement represents an important step in expanding access to engineering education while maintaining a foundation rooted in faith, academic excellence, and servant leadership. For Lipscomb, the partnership provides an opportunity to invest in future engineers who desire to use their gifts and training for the cause of Christ.

The articulation agreement also reflects the broader mission of Christian higher education. By working together, DBU and Lipscomb are helping prepare students not only for professional success, but also for lives of service and influence in a field that shapes communities, industries, and the world.
