Bringing Students Together Through Creativity and Faith: Glen Veasley Launches Group Projjject

Starting an organization is not always easy, but when it is fueled by passion and a heart to serve the Lord, it becomes possible. Dallas Baptist University Senior, Glen Veasley, combined his creative gifts and trust in God's guidance to begin Group Projjject, an organization designed to bring DBU students together through creativity.

Glen was raised in Duncanville, Texas, a city that is constantly growing yet maintains a small-town charm, located just minutes down the road from DBU. Even though he grew up in the area, Glen had never heard about DBU until one day during his senior year of high school, when he asked his mom what was on the hill they had driven past. This moment changed the course of his path, introducing him to University Hill, and eventually stepping onto campus as a freshman in 2021 with a focus in photography.

As he considered attending DBU, Glen knew that God was calling him to the University where he could be surrounded by a Christ-centered community. As a student, Glen has served with Student Life, Broadcasting, as a freelance creative worker in graphic design and photography, and is currently serving with the Communications Department as a Photographer. In this role, he enjoys capturing different parts of campus life. "Anything creative excites me," Glen says. "I enjoy exploring different areas of fine arts."

Surrounded by the creativity of his sister, mom, and grandmother while growing up, Glen shares that "DBU gave him the space, support, and mentorship to embrace that heritage and grow into the creative that God has called him to be." He knew that he wanted to graduate having made a meaningful impact and create something that would outlive his time on campus.

As he embraced his passion for the arts, Glen explored various ways that he could use his gifts for God's purpose. He began with things like Bible studies, creating a Christian clothing brand, and even became involved in street evangelism.

While each avenue served the Lord, Glen felt that none of them fully aligned with his natural skillsets. During his senior year, Glen realized his strength in creating unique, engaging experiences through his role as a Resident Assistant. As an RA, he organized events such as a lemonade stand held in front of the dorms and a hall-wide thrift shop that was open to all students.

"Through those experiences, it became clear that I had a passion for creating spaces where people could gather, connect, and express themselves creatively," Glen says.

As he recognized his strengths, Glen became inspired to start his very own organization, one that would combine his creative gifts and passions to bring students and local creatives together to grow, collaborate, and build community. "At our core, we are for the students and for the creatives," Glen shares. Once this vision came together, the next step was to find a name, which Glen notes took months of planning, prayer, and design to find just the right one.

The organization, Group Projjject, was then born in the summer of 2025. The name represents individuals coming together to create something extraordinary, and the three J's are an intentional way to point towards Jesus and the three days He spent in the tomb.

Taking inspiration from other student organizations at DBU, a leadership team was created with each position serving a specific purpose. Glen Veasley serves as President; Elizabeth Viniegra serves as the Art Director, overseeing the never-ending creative process; Elaina Flores leads in Public Relations; Bailey Liczwek serves as Event Planner; Sarah Trevino captures the heart of Group Projjject's events as photographer; and Hadlee Roan ensures events stay organized and running smoothly. The organization's chaplain team is led by Taylor Morrison, who serves to support the spiritual and relational side of Group Projjject's community.

Together, Group Projjject's leadership team hosted their first official event in the Fall of 2025 in the Great Hall of the Mahler Student Center. The event featured over 25 vendors and organizations, including clothing brands, coffee shops, First Baptist Cedar Hill, Hillcrest Baptist Church, Youth World, and Christ for the Nations. Throughout the event, students came together to enjoy performances from a Christian rap artist and DBU student, William Hornbuckle, followed by a live band.

Reflecting the organization's heart to serve the Lord and their community, Group Projjject's first event included a canned food drive, where each can that was collected was donated to the North Texas Food Bank.

With the start of his new organization, Glen shares how DBU has helped him grow beyond his fears and taught him to surrender his own plans over to the Lord. Glen now realizes that, in every season, God was there growing and shaping him to be the person and leader he is today.

The mentors and organizations throughout his time at DBU contributed to his personal growth and the foundation of Group Projjject. The organization's sponsor, Deven Reyes, inspired Glen to continually grow in his leadership capabilities; Wayne Briggs allowed him to explore a new role in graphic design; and his Fraternity, Psi Omega Phi, supported him through positions in PR and Merch. Each role strengthened and challenged Glen to never stop growing and pursuing his passions.

Glen shares how he could never have imagined the ways God would use this organization and prays that the future of Group Projjject will be guided by the next generation of leaders to continue creating meaningful, impactful moments long after he graduates. "I truly believe God is calling us to think bigger, create boldly, and serve creatively," Glen shares, and by using "future leaders to expand the vision and impact in ways that reflect His purpose and creativity."

As Glen reflects on the growth of Group Projjject, he encourages other students to surrender their plans to the Lord and His guidance. If God is prompting you to take the next step, whether that be starting a brand-new organization or joining one, do not hesitate, because you will only be delaying the blessing and purpose God has prepared for you.
