Master of Music Education*
*The Master of Music Education degree is pending approval by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
Beginning in Fall 2024, this master's degree will be offered to exclusively online students. It will be available to new students who take all courses in the degree program online for $550 per credit hour. Applications are currently being accepted.
The DBU Master of Music Education degree is a 30-credit hour program designed to equip students in their post-baccalaureate degree to gain a deeper understanding and knowledge of music and music education as it relates to both public and private K-12 schools. Students will explore historical performance practice, the origins of music education in the United States, the application of music theory to specific pedagogy and knowledge, multi-cultural impacts, pedagogy, practice, and other topics relevant to trends and issues in music education. The students will also gain knowledge and experience in research and writing in the field of music education.

Interactive sessions reinforce learner-centered outcomes that enhance the program experience. Armed with experience, knowledge, and instruction from a Christian worldview, Master of Music Education graduates enter their field of education as servant leaders ready to encourage student engagement and learning.
The courses in the Master of Music Education program provide you with an analytical and strategic approach to teaching that make you invaluable to the music classroom. Specifically, the Pedagogy of Music Theory course focuses on creating cross-curricular understanding between your students’ knowledge of music theory and their educational training.

Admission to one graduate program does not guarantee admission to another. Applicants who show potential for graduate study but do not meet the criteria for Full Admission, may be admitted for up to 12 hours under provisional status. Students admitted under Provisional Admission will be granted Full Admission upon successful completion of 12 credit hours and fulfillment of the conditions of their admission as determined by the Master’s Degrees Admission Committee.
