Responding to God’s gifting and call to teach in Romans 12:7, Dr. Julia Hyman served as a social studies teacher, content coordinator, and director and executive director of teaching and learning and advanced academics for thirty-six years in several independent school districts and the Region 11 Educational Serve Center in North Texas. Earning her Ed.D. in K-12 Educational Leadership at DBU and serving as an adjunct for eight years was a wonderful opportunity and manifestation of her desire to help prepare the next generation of Christian educators to fulfill their calling to teach in public, charter, and private schools.
Joining the full-time faculty of The Dorothy M. Bush College of Education in 2022 has been the culmination of a life-long dream as she shares her experiences with undergraduate and graduate students across a wide range of pedagogy and educational foundation courses. Believing in the power of life-long learning and having a heart for both domestic and international education, Dr. Hyman has also provided professional learning to practicing teachers in Texas, the United States, Tanzania, Brazil, Honduras, Indonesia, and Laos. She is always ready to explore the world while serving educators.
Dr. Hyman has been privileged to teach Sunday School/Children’s ministries, participate in mission trips, and serve on the Board of Trustees at her church. Although single, Dr. Hyman has a loving and dedicated family including her parents, brother and sister-in-law, two nephews, cousins and “adopted” family members.
