Another Year of Homecoming Cheer

The chapel was surrounded with the buzz and energy of students gathering for the Monday service, kicking off the well-anticipated Homecoming events. In between classes and late into the night, Greek Life members dotted the Quad and prepared their floats, despite the cold weather. Decorations ensued for the coming holidays, with lights being strung around the trees on campus, and a Christmas tree placed where the famed bush once stood.

Students and faculty rallied together to judge and taste chili during the annual cook-off, and Dr. Aaron Fletcher and Travis Whitfill were honored at the Annual Alumni Dinner.

A mass of DBU students filled the Burg center Thursday night as Mr. Big Chief participants geared up for their performances. This year, senior Taggert Corn took the top spot with his show-stopping performance. Friday night was just as full as Thursday, with the Alumni Dinner followed by the Patriot Rally and concert on the Quad.

On Saturday, DBU students and alumni lined up around campus for the annual homecoming parade. This year, it was led by the DBU basketball team, homecoming court, Greek Life and University organization floats, all the way from the Pilgrim Chapel to the tailgate party next to the Burg.

DBU rallied together to enjoy live music and food at the tailgate party, right before the big homecoming game. Students and alumni cheered on the DBU basketball team as they competed against Ouachita Baptist University. At halftime, Wayne Briggs and Sara Weatherly were named as the 2018 Homecoming King and Queen.

The game resumed in full swing and the Patriots came out victorious against Ouachita Baptist with a score of 100 to 77. After the game, students and alumni all gathered to celebrate the victory at the Bonfire Bash, marking the end of Homecoming Week 2018 and the start of the holiday season.
