Dallas, TX – Dallas Baptist University awarded 584 degrees during its four Spring Commencement Services, held on Thursday, May 11, and Friday, May 12, in the Patty and Bo Pilgrim Chapel on DBU’s campus.

During the Friday service, DBU took the opportunity to honor Pete Delkus, who serves as the Chief Meteorologist for WFAA, the Dallas-Fort Worth ABC affiliate, with an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree.

Delkus arrived in North Texas in 2005 and was soon named Chief Meteorologist, taking over for the legendary Troy Dungan.   Since his arrival, he has established himself as the leading voice on weather in the Metroplex, and has served the community in a variety of ways.

During his response, he shared with the students his philosophy on serving as a Christian in the field of broadcast communications.

“As Christians, we have the opportunity to serve God and spread the love of Christ in the workplace no matter what our career is by simply doing our jobs well,” Delkus shared.  “It’s been said that all work done well and for the glory of God is Christian work.  This means that we model Christ in the workplace best when we perform well with a good attitude.  That is how we inspire others to desire to know and to worship God.”

Delkus and his wife, Jacque, have two children, Emily and Peter, and are active members of ParkwayHills Baptist Church.  He has served on the DBU Board of Trustees since 2010.

During Thursday’s services, Dr. Jay Harley, DBU Vice President for Student Affairs, served as the keynote speaker.  Dr. Harley has been a member of the DBU Family since 2004 when he came to help organize a DBU mission trip to Swaziland and serve as the volunteer chaplain for the DBU Baseball Team.  Since that time, he has served in a variety of roles in Student Affairs, helping to oversee the spiritual development of the campus as well as a number of other student development initiatives.

Jay and his wife, Brittany, who is a DBU alumna, are active members of Matthew Road Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, where Brittany serves as the Minister to Children.  They have three children—Jett, Caroline, and Mack.
