Will Guidara Challenges DBU Community to Pursue “Unreasonable Hospitality” at DFW Leadership Series
Dallas Baptist University welcomed renowned entrepreneur, author, and hospitality visionary Will Guidara to campus as the featured speaker for the DFW Leadership Series, an evening centered on leadership, service, and meaningful human connection.

Hosted in Pilgrim Chapel following a dinner gathering in the John G. Mahler Student Center, the event brought together students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community leaders for an engaging night of conversation and inspiration. The evening began with a Q&A session led by Dr. David Reyes, a DBU alumnus and Talent Development Leader at Southwest Airlines, before transitioning to Guidara's keynote address.
Guidara is best known as the former co-owner of Eleven Madison Park in New York City, the restaurant that rose under his leadership to be named the No. 1 restaurant in the world. He is also the author of the New York Times bestselling book Unreasonable Hospitality and a co-producer of the Emmy Award-winning television series The Bear.
Opening the evening, DBU Senior Vice President Jonathan Teat thanked Guidara for investing in the mission and vision of DBU and emphasized the importance of events that help students live fully integrated lives marked by faith and leadership.
"Our mission at DBU is all about developing Christ-centered servant leaders," Jonathan shared. "Events like this are one way we contribute to that conversation and create opportunities for people of influence to invest in our students and community."

During his keynote, Guidara shared the remarkable story of transforming Eleven Madison Park from a respected New York restaurant into one of the most celebrated dining experiences in the world. Yet, he explained that the restaurant's success was not built solely on culinary excellence; it was built on how people were made to feel.
He introduced attendees to the principle of "unreasonable hospitality," describing it as going beyond expectations to create personalized and memorable experiences for others.
"We became number one not because of the excellence of our product," Guidara said. "Excellence is a prerequisite. We became number one because we were as unreasonable in pursuit of how we made people feel as everyone else was in pursuit of product."
Throughout the evening, Guidara shared practical examples of how intentional acts of care transformed ordinary customer interactions into lifelong memories, from serving a family a New York hot dog in a fine dining restaurant to creating meaningful celebrations for guests marking special milestones.

He challenged students and business leaders alike to rethink service not as a transaction, but as an opportunity to build relationships.
"Hospitality is being creative and intentional in pursuit of relationships," Guidara said. "The next time you find yourself pursuing one, just try being a little more unreasonable."
Guidara also spoke about leadership, emphasizing the importance of vision, ownership, and team culture. He encouraged attendees to communicate purpose clearly, create environments where people feel valued, and recognize that small gestures often have the greatest impact.
The evening reflected DBU's continued commitment to equipping students and the broader community through transformational learning opportunities that connect faith, vocation, and leadership.

Christopher Holloway, Director of Global Missions and Director of Global Village, and event planner for Guidara's visit, reflected on the impact of the evening: "Will Guidara being on campus was a dream come true. It has been such a joy to hear back from so many attendees from various vocations on how they want to better apply the principles of hospitality that Will taught. More than this, I am so encouraged that as Christians, we get to look even further than Will's words and look to Jesus, the One who embodies hospitality perfectly!"
As attendees departed Pilgrim Chapel, they carried with them a powerful reminder: success may be measured in achievements, but lasting influence is measured by how people are loved, served, and remembered.
Will Guidara is the author of the national bestselling book Unreasonable Hospitality, which chronicles the leadership philosophy that helped transform Eleven Madison Park into the No. 1 restaurant in the world.
