Celebrating Faith and Music: DBU Chorale Brings Alumni and Students Together

DBU Students performed at the annual DBU Choral Invitational Concert in Pilgrim Chapel in Dallas

The Dallas Baptist University College of Fine Arts and Department of Music recently hosted the third annual DBU Choral Invitational Concert on Tuesday, September 30, in Pilgrim Chapel, celebrating a shared love of music and ministry among students, alumni, and guests.

The concert marked the culmination of a multi-day recruitment tour (September 28–30) by DBU's premier auditioned ensemble, The University Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Joshua Brown, Director of Choral Studies. The tour began with the Chorale leading worship in both services at First Baptist Church in Waxahachie before continuing to several Texas high schools, including Pflugerville, Cedar Park, Round Rock, McNeil, and Waco Midway. At each stop, the Chorale performed for choir students, shared their experiences as DBU students, and invited others to discover the Christ-centered community found on University Hill.

The week concluded with the Choral Invitational Concert, where the University Chorale was joined by four outstanding high school choirs, all led by DBU Music Department alumni:

  • Granbury High School – Kendra Fisher '01
  • Lamar High School – Greg Haugen '99
  • Poteet High School – Mitchell Washington '98
  • Prosper High School – Crystal Chamberlain '07

With Dr. Brown conducting the University Chorale, a DBU graduate directed every ensemble performing that evening, a remarkable testament to the lasting impact of DBU's music program. Among the special guests in attendance was Dr. Stephen Holcomb, who faithfully served as DBU's Director of Choral Studies for over 35 years. Dr. Holcomb offered words of encouragement to the alumni and their students, reflecting on the joy of seeing former students now leading the next generation of musicians.

The evening was a powerful reminder of the mission that unites the DBU community, cultivating excellence in the arts while glorifying God through every note. For current students, it was an inspiring opportunity to witness DBU graduates living out their calling and making a difference in classrooms and choirs across Texas.
