Alumni Updates: Meet Maddie and Abraão

Maddie and Abraão

After graduating from the M.A. in Global Leadership program, students utilize what they have learned as they pursue their God-given callings and career paths in all areas of the world. Maddie Naisbiit, a 2019 MAGL graduate, currently works as an administrator for a theological college in Southwest London, England. The MAGL program has helped her learn how to better communicate with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. She states, "I think the MAGL showed me how to embrace the depth and breadth of the church. We don't all look and sound the same, but when Jesus is at the center of all we do, everything else is secondary."

Another graduate, Abraão Lucas Jr, is using what he has learned from the MAGL to be the Assistant Pastor at Central Brazilian Baptist Church in Bedford, Texas where he also serves as a Worship Leader. An area that Abraão grew the most in during his time at DBU is servant leadership, specifically in being a minister. His time in the Graduate School of Ministry aided in solidifying his interest in theology, giving him the desire to study more and more. Currently, he is studying at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he is pursuing a Master of Divinity.

When asked what advice Maddie and Abraão would give to current MAGL students, they both agree in the importance of engaging with the professors and the materials they give. Maddie mentions how the world is becoming increasingly globalized; therefore, having cultural intelligence and being able to exercise it appropriately is a skill everyone should learn. Abraão adds, "Remember, you are extremely blessed to have the opportunity to receive excellent preparation for ministry and are in a place that many people wish to be. Therefore, you have much responsibility in both your life and ministry.

The MAGL program works hard to train up new leaders and equip students as their pursue callings in ministry, missions, and cross-cultural leadership.
