Dallas Baptist University is pleased to announce that the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) has ranked DBU's elementary teacher preparation program as the overall number one program in the nation.

The overall top ten elementary teacher preparation programs, according to the NCTQ, are as follows:

  1. Dallas Baptist University
  2. Texas A&M University
  3. Ohio State University
  4. The Northwestern State University of Louisiana (tied)
  5. The University of Dayton (tied)
  6. Louisiana State University
  7. University of Houston
  8. Miami University of Ohio (tied)
  9. Eastern Connecticut State University (tied)
  10. The University of Texas at Austin

Founded in 2000, the NCTQ has maintained a focus on helping colleges produce educators who are well-prepared to handle the challenges of the 21st-century classroom. DBU has been consistently ranked among the highest programs in the nation by the NCTQ.

This year, the NCTQ study was expanded to cover some 1,100 institutions nation-wide. Among those, DBU received national marks for both its secondary and elementary programs, one of only nine institutions in the country to achieve this honor, as well as being named the top elementary teacher preparation program in the nation.

"We are so pleased to receive this positive report," stated Dr. Neil Dugger, dean of the DBU College of Education. "Throughout our curriculum, we strive to prepare educators for the challenge of today's classroom, and it is encouraging to receive recognition for our efforts."

"While we are very excited about these results, we believe in the need to continually improve our programs," Dr. Dugger continued. "We are planning to review this report and determine how we can better train our students so that they can carry on the mission of DBU and be quality servant leaders who can make a difference in the lives of their students."
