Preparing for the Fall Semester: DBU Hosts Summer Workshops and Honors Three Adjunct Faculty

In preparation for the upcoming Fall semester, Dallas Baptist University's adjunct professors participated in one of three summer workshops, where adjunct professors Pamela Cameron, Dr. Chuck Roe, and Dr. Muriel Wilson were each honored with the Adjunct of the Year Award.

Under the direction of Dr. Norma Hedin, University Provost, and her team, the adjunct workshops equip faculty with the resources, encouragement, and support needed for a successful semester.

"We pack three hours full of important, informative conversation that will encourage, inspire, and aid our faculty as they prepare for the upcoming semester," shared Leslie Estes, DBU's Director of Faculty Support.

Centered on the theme, "Building Bridges for Transformational Leadership," the summer workshops focused on cultivating meaningful connections with students throughout the upcoming semester.

As part of the workshops, Dr. Shelly Melia, DBU's Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Ministry, Master of Arts in Children's Ministry Program Director, and Master of Arts in Family Ministry Program Director, led a session titled "Building Generational Bridges," based on the research for her new book, Reaching Generation Alpha. The session motivated professors to consider how understanding generational identity could better prepare them to reach current and incoming students.

In addition to the professional development sessions, three adjunct faculty members were honored with the Adjunct of the Year award, recognizing their commitment to DBU's students, creating welcoming and engaging classroom environments, and integrating faith and learning.

The first workshop awardee was Pamela Cameron, who serves as Adjunct Professor of History in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. Chuck Roe, Adjunct Professor of Education in the Dorothy M. Bush College of Education, was recognized during the second workshop of the summer, and Dr. Muriel Wilson, Adjunct Professor of Marketing in the Don and Linda Carter School of Business, was honored at the third adjunct faculty workshop.

With over 340 adjunct faculty preparing to lead in the classroom this semester, these workshops provide the tools, resources, and encouragement needed to purposefully connect and invest in the lives of DBU students.
