Incoming Class Participates in Student Welcome and Transition (SWAT) Week 2023

DBU’s annual Move-In Day took place on August 16, marking the arrival of 650 new Patriots to their new home on the hill. The event offered a warm welcome to the fresh faces who will embark on a transformative journey of learning, growth, and community-building.

As a part of Student Welcome and Transition (SWAT) week, students also participated in outdoor activities and games, nights of worship, and a footwashing ceremony, followed by a Candlelighting service, which serves as a special time of reflection as students are encouraged upon their entrance, and once again when they graduate, that they are to be the light of the world in Christ.

To finish out SWAT week, 520 students were spread throughout the DFW Metroplex to serve in various locations, an introductory experience into one of DBU’s core values of Christ-like servant leadership. One group packed 580 boxes and wrote uplifting messages to support mothers with unexpected pregnancies during their pivotal life phase. Another group of students dedicated their endeavors to 6 Stones, an organization committed to constructing and refurbishing residences for underserved families.

"DBU's incoming freshmen were bestowed with the exceptional privilege of embodying the compassionate and industrious ethos epitomized by Jesus, as they internalized the core tenets of Servant Leadership and the unwavering commitment that constitute the foundational pillars of DBU's Mission," said Desi Henk, Assistant Vice President, Center for Career & Professional Development.
