DBU to Host A Congreso Experience on February 8 with Featured Speaker Marlon Ivan Rios

DBU Hosts A Congreso Experience Featuring Marlon Ivan Rios

On February 8, Dallas Baptist University is proud to host A Congreso Experience, a full-day event encouraging Hispanic students in their education and spiritual walk through workshops, group activities, and a worship rally, all in preparation for the larger annual three-day event in the city of Waco later in April 9-11. Irene Reyes Gallegos, a DBU Alum, will be serving as a keynote speaker at the April event.

At the February event on the DBU Campus, the featured speaker will be Marlon Ivan Rios. Marlon was born in Mexico before immigrating to the U.S. with his family when he was seven years old. He later served in the United States Army for six years in the 82nd Airborne Division. Marlon currently works in the Office of Hispanic Ministries of the Cultural Engagement Team for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He completed a bachelor's degree in the History of Religion, a M.A. in Theological Studies, a Th.M. in Historical Theology, and is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the DBU Cook School of Leadership.

"Marlon is a champion of what we are doing here at DBU, and I could not ask for a better person to speak at the DBU Congreso," says David Reyes, Director of Student Life. "Marlon represents DBU as he speaks at churches and events throughout the year, and we are blessed to have him as a Patriot. Marlon will be an example to these students in a number of ways."

The February event is free and open to any youth groups in the area. Students will also have a chance to cheer on the DBU Patriot basketball team as they play against the Midwestern State Mustangs at 2 p.m.

"This event will be a great opportunity for any student to experience what the Lord has for them and also experience life at DBU with some great activities and even an opportunity for a junior or senior to win a scholarship to DBU," says Reyes. "Our hope is for students to leave campus feeling excited about the upcoming Congreso event, but also feel empowered and encouraged in their walk with the Lord."
