Focusing on promoting a healthier environment and enhancing the beauty of Dallas Baptist University's award-winning, nationally recognized "Tree Campus USA," the TAK and TriBeta Honor Societies, along with the Student Government Association, sponsored the third annual Creation Care Symposium.

Moderated by DBU's Director of the Master of Arts in Theological Studies Program, Dr. Jim Lemons, the symposium took place on Wednesday, April 22, in the Gaston Chapel.

The symposium included a special panel presentation featuring professors Dr. Mark Bloom, Dr. Debra Hinson, and Dr. Jodi Grimes, where they addressed "The Problems with Plastics" and the devastating effects they cause on the environment and human health.

Following the symposium, students were invited to participate in a tree-planting ceremony, contributing to the campus's beauty and to a healthier environment. DBU's Director of Construction, Landscaping, and Special Projects, Matt Dewhirst, oversaw this special project, planting trees that will absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, and improve air quality.

During the ceremony, Dr. Jon Choi, Director of the Master of Arts in Worship Studies Program, along with graduate worship studies student Wendy Caplinger, led the group in a time of worship. This moment of praise allowed the group to reflect on the greatness and beauty of God's creation.

Each year, professors like Dr. Lemons, Dr. Bloom, Dr. Hinson, and Dr. Grimes remain committed to bringing students together to increase awareness of the importance of our environment and the responsibility Christ-followers have to care for God's creation.
