Winter Weather Shapes Several Days of Campus Life at DBU
Winter weather closed classrooms across Dallas Baptist University, but campus life continued in ways students won't soon forget.
After snow and ice settled over University Hill, students stepped outside to make the most of the rare conditions. DBU's hills quickly turned into sledding routes, with students racing downhill on traditional sleds and makeshift alternatives. Groups gathered at the top of the slopes, cheering, laughing, and capturing the moment as the campus took on a lighter, more playful pace.

Behind the scenes, DBU Grounds and Maintenance crews worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to address icy conditions. Treating roads and walkways, clearing high-traffic areas, and responding as weather shifted, their ongoing efforts helped keep campus as safe and accessible as possible during the storm.
As temperatures dropped, Student Life hosted opportunities for students to warm up and connect, including food and fellowship. The gatherings gave students space to connect, share stories from the day, and enjoy community amid the unexpected pause from regular schedules.

On Sunday, more than 100 students filled the DBU Coffeehouse for worship led by DBU Chapel Worship. The service provided a meaningful moment of unity and reflection, bringing students together despite the altered weekend plans.

As the week began, classes moved online, allowing students to stay engaged academically while weather conditions improved. Students who remained on campus also gathered for a movie night and a hot cocoa and pancake social, offering simple ways to stay connected during the extended weather closure. On Monday, chapel was held for students on campus, providing another opportunity for worship and encouragement despite the adjusted schedule. Outside, the campus remains covered in a quiet blanket of white, transforming familiar buildings and walkways into a striking winter landscape.

From sledding hills and shared meals to worship, online learning, and the dedicated work of campus staff, the snow and ice created several days that highlighted the resilience, flexibility, and community at the heart of DBU.
