Dallas Baptist University and Baylor University Announce Engineering Program Enrollment Agreement
Officials from Dallas Baptist University and Baylor University announced the creation of a program that will expand engineering education opportunities at Baylor for DBU students.
The agreement, signed by Linda Livingstone, Ph.D., President at Baylor, Nancy Brickhouse, Ph.D., Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Baylor, Adam C. Wright, Ph.D., DBU President, and Norma Hedin, Ph.D., DBU Provost, will allow DBU students to pursue an engineering career at Baylor by transferring their undergraduate course credits to Baylor's School of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) in order to complete Bachelor’s degrees in engineering (BSECE, BSE, and BSME).
"There's incredible missional alignment between DBU and Baylor, and I have such admiration for what President Livingstone is doing at Baylor," said DBU President Wright. "There is also a broader reach that will be achieved for DBU internationally and domestically as a result of this partnership, providing more access to the incredible resources that you have at Baylor, the lab spaces, the influence, and the commitment to producing socially responsible engineers that will make an incredible contribution for Christ and His kingdom. I'm filled with gratitude for this collaborative partnership with Baylor."
Livingstone added that Baylor and DBU share a strong Baptist and Christian heritage, noting her appreciation for the opportunity the agreement gives Baylor to partner with DBU again. The universities signed an articulation agreement to expand nursing education opportunities in 2012.
The current agreement facilitates the admission of qualified students and the transfer of qualified credits from the DBU Associate of Engineering degree through the College of Natural Science and Mathematics to Baylor ECS.
"This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for our college, and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone who played a role in this endeavor" — Dr. Dionisio Fleitas, Dean, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at DBU.
The "articulation agreement" sets forth a program permitting DBU students to transfer credit for courses taken at DBU to meet Baylor requirements. DBU students also will receive assistance with the ECS application process. All DBU students who seek admittance to Baylor’s School of Engineering and Computer Science must apply to Baylor, qualify for admission, and meet ECS prerequisites, including the required competitive grade point average.
"The world needs Christian higher education, within that, Baylor and DBU play unique roles with significant overlap," said Baylor University President Livingstone. "It’s important that we all support one another and collaborate as we seek to produce graduates that have a Christian perspective on the world and integrate that into the work they do when they leave us, regardless of career field," said President Livingstone.
"I am excited about the future of engineering at DBU and Baylor and looking forward to many years of collaboration, sharing ideas, and partnership between the universities." — Dr. Owen Schipplein, Director, Associate of Engineering Program at DBU.
