Faculty Profile - Lee Bratcher

Meet Lee Bratcher! He is the Director of DBU’s Master of Arts in International Studies (MAIS) program, which is designed to equip leaders for service in a broad array of multicultural contexts, including for-profit business, non-profit/non-governmental organizations, diplomacy, and government. He also serves as the Coordinator of the Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) undergraduate program. The PPE program seeks to prepare students to enter influential fields such as politics, business, consultancy, diplomatic service, law, economics, or international relations. As the coordinator of the PPE program and director of the MAIS program, Mr. Bratcher helps students to pursue careers in the global political and business environments.

Why do you serve at DBU?

"DBU provides a conducive environment to critically examine complex ideas. This environment encourages faculty and students to grapple with intricate social, religious, economic, philosophical, and political questions. Additionally, I appreciate the academic freedoms provided to faculty at DBU. The most significant impetus for me to teach at DBU, however, is the quality and character of its students. DBU students routinely impress me with their Christian commitment and strength of character. They are a joy to teach."

What is your goal for your students at DBU?

"My goal for my students is that each one would leave DBU with an education that will prepare them to be leaders in their communities, effective competitors in the job market, and transformers of culture. I help students to accomplish this goal by connecting them with developmental internships, mentors who work in their chosen fields, and travel study experiences designed to broaden their world views."

If you could tell a parent why DBU is worth their investment, what would you tell them?

"To parents who are contemplating the value a Christian education at DBU can offer their children, I would challenge them to find another university that takes more of an interest in the intellectual, spiritual, and social shaping of students than DBU does. DBU staff and faculty count it as their primary mission to mentor and support students."
