DBU Receives $13,000 Grant to Help Visually Impaired Students

Dallas, TX – The Alice Givens Jones Foundation has provided a gift of $13,000 for equipment to be used in DBU’s Vance Memorial Library in order to support students who are visually impaired.

“We are grateful for the support of our friends at the Alice Givens Jones Foundation,” shared Dr. Adam C. Wright, DBU President. “Their generosity will allow us to continue to provide educational support to outstanding students who have unique challenges in their lives so that they can continue to pursue the calling God has placed on their lives.”

The gift will provide a variety of equipment to support the unique needs of students who are visually impaired, assisting them in utilizing the vast academic resources of the University. Additionally three current DBU students with visual impairment will receive scholarships from the foundation.

Pamela M. Ajayi and Georgia M. Barnes began the Alice Givens Jones Foundation in honor of their mother and grandmother, Alice Givens Jones, a former nurse who had become visually impaired at the age of 58. The mission of the Alice Givens Jones Foundation is to improve the quality of life by supporting the social, emotional, and economical challenges of legally blind students.
