Important Financial Aid Steps
Application Checklist
- Apply for admission to DBU
- Contact our Admissions Office at (214) 333-5360 or admissions@dbu.edu. Alternatively, submit an online application.
- Utilize the FAFSA forecaster site
- Get an early start on Financial Aid by visiting the FAFSA forecaster site for estimated eligibility and insights on the financial aid process. Benefits include automatic FSA ID generation, prepopulated FAFSA applications, and access to a Net Price Calculator.
- Complete the FAFSA or TASFA and send it to DBU
- To be considered for federal and state financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA typically becomes available on or around October 1 each year for the upcoming academic year, and students are encouraged to complete and submit it as early as possible once it opens. Submit the FAFSA using your FSA ID and include DBU’s school code: 003560. Be sure to use the appropriate federal tax information required for the applicable award year.
- Students who are non-citizens of the United States follow instructions by completing the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) found on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board website.
- If you are a Texas Resident, complete the Texas Residency Determination Form and any additional DBU forms found in your MyDBU or forms as advised by the Office of Financial Aid at DBU.
- Federal Loans (MPN and loan entrance counseling)
- If obtaining Federal Student Loans, students must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN). You will also need Loan Entrance Counseling or funds will not disburse to your student account.
- Authorization of Title IV funds
- To allow Title IV aid to pay for all educational costs on the student account, see the Title IV authorization that is a part of the student financial responsibility agreement (FRA).

All About FAFSA
The FAFSA is required to apply for federal financial aid, such as federal grants and loans. To determine if a student can receive federal financial aid, a student must have a valid FAFSA submitted to the university prior to the end date of the term of enrollment. You can review the Academic Calendars for more information on term-specific dates.
Students who would like to be considered for need-based aid, such as Federal Work-Study or Federal SEOG, should complete and submit the FAFSA as soon as possible once it becomes available. Because funding for these programs is limited, filing early provides the best opportunity to be considered for available funds.
The FAFSA is completed for a specific academic year and generally covers the fall, spring, and summer terms within that aid year. When filing the FAFSA, students and contributors must use the prior-prior year federal tax information required for that FAFSA award year. This means the FAFSA typically uses income information from two calendar years before the academic year begins. Students are encouraged to submit the FAFSA as soon as possible once it becomes available to allow time for processing and to maximize consideration for aid programs with limited funding. The federal FAFSA deadline is typically June 30 following the end of the applicable academic year.
FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS)
After the FAFSA has been processed, the federal processor will send a FAFSA Submission Summary to you and an electronic version to DBU. The FSS indicates whether you have been selected for a process called verification and whether you are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant. If you do not have a copy of your FSS, you can request a duplicate copy from the Federal Student Aid Information Center by calling 1+ (800) 433-3243.
