Traditions Ringing of the Liberty Bell After students enroll at DBU, one of the first traditions they experience is the privilege of proudly ringing the bell, marking the beginning of their journey at DBU. Student Welcome And Transition (SWAT) DBU’s annual welcome event for new students is affectionately known as SWAT Week, which stands for Student Welcome And Transition. Welcome Week The first week of school kicks off with new classes and special events around campus hosted by Student Life, including a special concert for the whole DBU Family to enjoy. Patriot Rally Students gather in the Burg for a chance to meet their Patriot Athletic teams, as well as showcase their talents as Greek organizations perform cheers and dances for the crowd. The Great Pumpkin Chase Held each fall on Halloween, the Great Pumpkin Chase takes place with DBU students dressed in various costumes, running across the campus in search of prized pumpkins. Homecoming The week of Homecoming is the most action packed week of the year. The entire DBU Family has the opportunity to reconnect at various receptions and luncheons throughout the week. Homecoming Tailgate Party & Game The Tailgate Party is right before the basketball game and is filled with carnival games, food, live music, and a radio announcer to highlight Patriot Sports. Spring Sing Get your talent on and show us your stuff in the zaniest, most entertaining student-sponsored music and dance festival ever. DBU Cross Ring The official DBU Cross Ring displays the cross of Christ on its center, reflecting the University mission of providing a Christ-centered education. Candlelighting The Candlelighting service represents a culmination of a student’s time at DBU. It is a joyous and meaningful time for graduates and their families to reflect back on their time at DBU. 6

Service-Learning At Dallas Baptist University, service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates academic instruction, community service, and guided reflection from a Christ-centered, faith-based perspective in order to enhance student learning, to foster civic responsibility, and to develop servant leaders. Each year, DBU students serve more than 150,000 hours in the U.S. and abroad. 3. Ministry Bridge Passionate, trained, and effective college students are available through DBU Ministry Bridge to serve at churches who are in need of assistance with semester-long commitments, as well as special events. Led by the Spiritual Life staff at DBU, Ministry Bridge supports the local church by supplying worship leaders, speakers, small group leaders, rec teams, drama teams, and internships. 2. Career Services Career Services is designed to help students bridge the gap from being a student to a highly productive employee. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is the headquarters to more than a dozen Fortune 500 companies and more than 5,000 other corporations. This offers students innumerable opportunities for internships and employment. 11 The DFW Metroplex is home to a vast array of businesses, as well as numerous churches, non-profits, and school districts. DBU is committed to see students take their education from the classroom to the real world through internship opportunities, career placement services, and professional mentoring. In addition, DBU’s unique accelerated degree programs allow students to seamlessly transition from their undergraduate degree to a graduate degree, providing them with a faster pathway to gain the education and credentials they need to get a step ahead of the competition. 4. Mentoring Proverbs 27:17 says that, “as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” The Center for Mentoring on our campus is here to help DBU students connect with those who can help them grow academically, spiritually, and professionally.

14 A H E A R T F O R C H R I S T At the heart of a distinctive DBU education is the emphasis placed on the spiritual life and growth of students. In particular, chapel services, held three times every week, are vital elements for the student body to gather and worship God together in song and the teaching of God’s Word. Spiritual Life Baptist Student Ministry The focus of the DBU BSM is to promote the Christian presence on campus through missional living, discipleship, and hospitality to ultimately support the local church. We desire students to be devoted to the Scriptures, to be faithful in prayer, to demonstrate the Gospel through service on and off campus, and to proclaim the Gospel to themselves and others. Worship Opportunities There are many ways to get involved in corporate worship at DBU. We worship together in chapel, in bible studies, and in special events like the DBU Night of Worship with artists like Shane and Shane, Phil Wickham, and Hillsong College. You can also audition to join the dozens of student worship leaders as a member of the Chapel Worship Teams. Prayer Ministry DBU has been built and sustained on a foundation of prayer. You will find a dedicated prayer request box in every building on campus, as well as a dedicated prayer room in the chapel. Our Director of Prayer Ministry coordinates these efforts, and hundreds of students come each school year to share their requests and pray for others.

Our men’s baseball team competes at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. Our NCAA DII programs compete in the Lone Star Conference. All intercollegiate teams also hold membership in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). For those seeking competition, but with less of a commitment, the University also sponsors six club sports, while our Rec Life and intramural programs provide more than 20 competitive sport offerings.
