Dr. Justin Gandy
Assistant Professor of Management
When I was nine, my best friend Sam and I decided to burn down the fort that belonged to the kids next door. I'm sure in my nine year old mind they somehow deserved it, but the Lord used that incident to expose me to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. I asked him to be my Savior, and I became a new creation. Since then, I have not always obeyed his voice, but He has remained faithful to direct my path.
I initially went to college to make a lot of money but eventually surrendered to His call to ministry. While attending seminary, I served as a Student Minister for 6 years, and I soon realized that my ministry would somehow center around teaching. I also soon realized that I didn’t necessarily enjoy spending my weekends with junior high kids, so I moved to Dallas several years ago to attend DBU in pursuit of a Ph.D. God has gifted and called me to teach, and I am here in obedience to that call.
I met a girl named Christy here at DBU my first week on campus, and the Lord graciously answered my prayers for her to become my wife. We were married in 2008, and I am excited for the Lord to tell His story through our lives. We have one son, Zachary David, and he is pretty much the best kid ever.
Back when I had free time available, I enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors. I love to play golf, and I will go water skiing any chance I get. I also love to cook, which comes in handy now that I am married.
In January 2012, I began serving as Assistant Professor of Management for the College of Business. Previously, I served as the Director for Service-Learning for almost four years. My philosophy of teaching is we learn best by asking and answering great questions. My favorite question to ask is “Why?” and I enjoy when students come prepared to discuss not just what they have learned but why it is important and how it can be used to change the world.
I am also one of the sponsors for THE REGIMENT, which is a group of men who help support DBU by firing a cannon during home baseball and soccer games and who have also been known to cook a little meat from time to time.
I have grown to love DBU, and I look forward to developing relationships with my students. May the Lord bless each of you as you pursue His calling upon your life.
Subjects of Instruction:
- Management Communication
- Organizational Behavior
- Social Entrepreneurship
- Business Leadership
- Developing a Christian Mind
Areas of Interest:
I’m most interested in the field of social entrepreneurship. Even though we have more nonprofits than ever before, the problems in the world don’t seem to be getting much better. What if we applied the same kind of innovation and creativity demonstrated by the greatest business entrepreneurs to the world’s biggest problems? As Christians, we are called to redeem this fallen and broken world, and I can think of no better way than to bring that redemption through the field of business.
