Dr. Jinsop Park
Full Professor in Finance
I am a full-time professor of Finance at DBU. I have been teaching here at DBU since 1993. I did my MBA and Ph.D. in Finance at the University of California, Berkeley. Before that, I did my undergraduate degree in Business Administration (BBA) at Seoul Nat'l University, Seoul, Korea. Before I came to DBU, I had taught at the University of California, Riverside, and California State University, Hayward.
My main areas of teaching interest include Corporate Financial Management, Investments, and East Asian Financial Markets. My areas of research interest include "Efficient Market Hypothesis and Capital Market Anomalies," "Value of Information," and "State-Preference Theory."
It was the Lord who led me to DBU. I love serving here at DBU to expand His kingdom through Christian higher education. I was born in South Korea. It was when I first came to the U.S. for my graduate studies in 1979 that I first heard the gospel. I became a Christian in 1980. Even though it was a gradual process for me, it was through the living Word of God that I was saved. Also, it was by studying the Word of God that I have been growing in Christ. I am a happy member of the New Song Church (formerly First Korean Baptist Church of Dallas), where I serve as a Bible study teacher, a cell group leader, and a deacon. It is my passion to study the Bible more in depth. I love to share the Bible with others, young and old.
During Fall 2007-Spring 2008, and Spring 2010, I had the opportunity to teach Finance at Yanbian University of Science and Technology (YUST) in Yanji, China. Yanbian is the name of a district in China bordering North Korea and Russia. I also had a chance to teach at Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST), in Pyongyang, North Korea during the last several summers. I taught finance in Lithuania (Lithuania Christian College) during the summer. These were voluntary service work. It is through God's grace that my wife and I had the opportunity to serve the students in these countries. It has been a great privilege. I am planning to continue to serve them.
I am happily married. My wife and I travel together a lot. We play golf together. We are best friends. We have a daughter and a son, both of whom are grown-ups. I have two grandchildren. They are another blessing from God. I thank God for this wonderful family where we care about each other so much even though we are never perfect. God has always been gracious.
