Dr. Caia K. McCullar's Background

Caia McCullar is Professor of Music and Program Director of the Music Education Division at Dallas Baptist University. She came to DBU in the Fall of 2006 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. McCullar holds the Bachelor of Music Education (K-12) from Baylor University, the Master of Music degree in music education and a Performance Certificate in Voice from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. in Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in music education and voice from Texas Tech University. In addition, she holds teaching certifications in all-level music, generic special education, and elementary education, as well as certification levels in Kodaly and Orff methodologies.

Areas of teaching include elementary and secondary music education methods, music for classroom teachers, supervision of music student teachers, the Music TExES Review course for music teaching certification, and private voice. Previously, Dr. McCullar was Professor of Church Music Education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth where she was Chair of the Ministry Division, head of the curriculum committee, taught master's and doctoral courses in church music education and music history, directed by the Children's Choir Lab, and served as a private voice instructor. Dr. McCullar has also held faculty appointments at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Wayland Baptist University as well as in elementary and secondary choral music, elementary language arts and social studies, and special education. In addition, she has served as a graded choir clinician and director for churches in Central and West Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Dr. McCullar is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Music Educators National Conference (MENC), Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA), American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She currently serves as secretary for the DFW Chapter of NATS

D. McCullar and her husband, David, who is Director of Fine Arts for Denton ISD, have developed review materials and conducted TExES Music preparation workshops for Ed Publishing and at the TMEA state music conference. They are co-authors of the Pass the TExES Music EC-12 study manual available through Ed Publishing. Dr. McCullar has twice been named in Who's Who Among America's Teachers and is recognized by the American Norwegian Historical Association as an Outstanding Young Woman in America.
