DBU REPORT 22 “As graduate and undergraduate members of OΔK, our goal is to grow in our individual leadership journeys in order to serve and lead others in a way that images the excellence of Jesus Christ,” OΔK Chapter President Sara Weatherly explained. Established in 1914, Omicron Delta Kappa (OΔK) is a national honors society whose mission is to “identify, honor, and develop leaders in collegiate and community life.” Because of the dedicated leadership of Christ-like individuals on campus and through the application of these values across all aspects of life, members of the DBU chapter of OΔK will one day venture out into the world better equipped to serve like Jesus. “The DBU chapter of OΔK has a rich history, beginning with the faithfulness of DBU Chancellor Dr. Gary Cook,” says Sara Weatherly. While at his alma mater, Dr. Cook was mentored by Dr. Glenn Hilburn, who opened up doors for Dr. Cook to take on leadership roles while studying his undergraduate degree. “Dr. Cook’s willingness to step into uncertain circumstances and take advantage of opportunities presented encourages me to say yes to things outside of my comfort zone and trust in God’s presence and His plan,” Sara continues. “As graduate and undergraduate members of OΔK, our goal is to grow in our individual leadership journeys in order to serve and lead others in a way that images the excellence of Jesus Christ.” Sara Weatherly The goal of DBU’s OΔK chapter is that the leadership taught within the program would infiltrate the many callings God will place on its members’ lives. “We know that God will call some of us to areas of leadership in business, medicine, education, government, and the home,” Sara says. “Our vision is for OΔK members to be prepared to act in obedience when these opportunities arise.” “OΔK thrives under the leadership of Dr. Gary Cook, Dr. Adam Wright, Dr. David Cook, and Gavin Fritz, all of whom diligently identify and equip leaders from within the academic, athletic, social, creative arts, and service areas of the student body,” Sara concludes. “We are privileged to learn from the experiences and wisdom of our sponsors, to meet together to analyze the leadership of important historical figures, and to attend leadership seminars and events both on and off campus.” OΔK members are honored to serve as hosts for a number of premier DBU events, including events planned by the Institute for Global Engagement, the Russell H. Perry Free Enterprise Dinner, and various luncheons throughout the year. Together, we pray that these leaders boldly step into the Lord’s calling upon their lives after college and are grateful for the leaders on campus that display so well what OΔK is all about.
