Visiting Fellow

Elizabeth Cassidy is a human rights analyst, strategist, and advocate with a focus on religious freedom and related rights. She served for 18 years on the nonpartisan staff of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), where she held leadership positions overseeing USCIRF’s research and publications, directing the development and promotion of its policy recommendations, and representing USCIRF in the United States and abroad. In addition to her Everett Center visiting fellowship, Elizabeth is a 2025-2028 member of the OSCE Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights’ Panel of Experts on Freedom of Religion or Belief.

Before USCIRF, Elizabeth worked for human rights organizations in Geneva, Switzerland and Windhoek, Namibia; taught at the University of Namibia, Princeton University, and Seton Hall University School of Law; practiced law; and clerked for federal trial and appellate court judges. She holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University, a J.D. from American University's Washington College of Law, and a LL.M from Stellenbosch University.
