Dallas, TX – Dallas Baptist University EVP Dr. Blair Blackburn recently authored A City on a Hill: Dallas Baptist University An Architectural History.
The book showcases the history of the architectural renaissance that has transformed the DBU campus over the past twenty-five years. This book details the vision conceived in the heart of DBU President, Dr. Gary Cook, which was to create a campus by designing all new buildings after some of America’s most historic and recognizable structures, providing a wonderful narrative and beautiful pictures of how DBU has become the stunning campus it is today.
"A City on a Hill recounts how we built the University, building by building, describing the challenges we faced and the providential growth that God created through these majestic architectural wonders," explained Dr. Blair Blackburn.
"As you read through the chapters, you will be introduced to the inspirations for each of our architectural replications and simulations of the historic, Classical, Georgian, and Colonial buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Beyond describing how we built each facility and explaining some of the architectural details, this book reveals how God used the creation of these buildings and the beautiful landscape to grow DBU and to advance the quality of the Christ-centered education that we offer."
Dr. Blackburn is the Executive Vice President of Dallas Baptist University, a post he has held since 2002. He joined the DBU staff in 1995 as the Assistant VP for Development and has served in several other roles including as an adjunct faculty member.
Throughout his time at DBU, Dr. Blackburn has played a significant role in the designing and the overseeing of many of these building projects. He holds a Bachelor of Science from University of Texas, Tyler, a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from Texas A&M University, Commerce, and a Doctor of Education from Baylor University.
Dr. Blackburn and his wife, Michelle, have three children, Taylor, Blair, and Parker. They are members of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas.
