Dallas, TX – Dallas Baptist University honored Dr. David Moon, founder of the Sam Moon Group, during the twelfth annual Tom Landry Leadership Award Dinner on Saturday, April 7, 2018, on the DBU campus. The annual event recognizes the lasting legacy of one of North Texas’ most famous citizens, Tom Landry.

The honorary chair for the dinner was Alicia Landry, wife of former Dallas Cowboys coach, the late Tom Landry, and Raymond Harris, architect, author, and executive movie producer, served as dinner chair.

Harris welcomed the guests in attendance, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by the Honorable Ron Simmons, DBU Alumnus and Texas State Representative. Dr. Brent Taylor, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Carrollton, provided the evening’s invocation. Dr. Taylor is a current DBU adjunct professor and member of the DBU Board of Trustees.

Upon transitioning to the DBU Pilgrim Chapel after dinner, guests enjoyed a musical medley performed by the DBU Grand Chorus under the direction of Dr. Stephen Holcomb, Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music.

Dr. Bob Brooks, Dean of the Graduate School of Ministry, opened the program with a word of welcome and gratitude to all in attendance and went on to introduce Dr. Adam C. Wright, DBU President, who took a moment to offer remarks about Dr. Moon and the incredible impact he has made at DBU.

After Dr. Wright’s remarks, Dr. Charles Ku, who serves as a dentist in Lewisville and is a long-time member of the DBU Board of Trustees, shared a few remarks and scripture verses with those gathered.

Following Dr. Ku, Brooks returned to formally introduce Dr. Moon and present a special video featuring international students honoring Dr. Moon and thanking him for his contribution of the International Center, followed by a tribute video from his family and friends.

In 1984, David Moon, along with his wife, In Sun, and sons, Samuel and Daniel, started Sam Moon Group as a regional wholesaler of general merchandise. Today, the Sam Moon Group has grown to become a dynamic Texas-based parent company operating in a variety of markets ranging from retail to commercial real estate. The Sam Moon Trading Co. is a successful retail business with eight different locations throughout Texas. The company has also entered the world of hospitality with opening their first hotel in 2013 and breaking ground of their second in 2018.

“We are thrilled to be able to honor David Moon and the Moon family,” said Dr. Wright. “He has helped so many through the years and is a wonderful example to our students what it means to be a Christian servant leader in business.”
