If the Ministry Student Grant/Scholarship is listed on my award letter from Financial Aid, is there anything else that I need to do?
Yes, in order for the grant/scholarship to be officially posted to your account, you must be in compliance with and complete the Ministry Student Grant/Scholarship Application.

Where can I get an application?
Applications for this grant/scholarship may be obtained from the Ministry Student Office, Office of Financial Aid, or on the Financial Aid pages of the DBU website.

Do I need to submit another application, testimony, and church endorsement each school year?
An annual application, including a personal testimony and church endorsement or recommendation, are required. New applicants must have your home church complete the Church Endorsement Section and renewing applicants must have your local church complete the Church Recommendation Section of the application.

What needs to be included in my testimony?
First Year Applicants must submit an essay expressing your personal call to a career in vocational or bi-vocational church related Christian ministry. Please be as specific as possible regarding the details of your call and what type of ministry you feel called to pursue. Include recent events in your life that have helped to affirm and clarify this call.

Renewal Applicants must submit an essay expressing how you continue to pursue your personal call to a career in vocational or bi-vocational church related Christian ministry. Please include the type of ministry you are pursuing and include events in your life during the past year that have helped to affirm and clarify this call.

Final Year Applicants must submit an essay assessing how you have and will continue to pursue your personal call to a career in vocational or bi-vocational church related Christian ministry. Please include the type of ministry you are pursuing, accomplishments during your ministry training at DBU that have helped you affirm and clarify this call, and continued educational goals.

Am I required to take a special class?
As of the fall 2004 semester, First Year Baptist Ministry Grant recipients must take RELI 1310: Introduction to Christian Ministry during the respective school year.  On the graduate level, Master of Arts in Worship Leadership students must take Baptist Heritage and Polity.

When is the deadline for turning in my completed Ministry Student Grant/Scholarship Application?
Deadlines for submitting fall, spring, and summer applications are the last add/drop date of each semester.  No undergraduate applications will be accepted for the current school year after April 1.  Graduate applications turned in after October 1 will not be awarded for the fall semester, graduate applications turned in after April 1 will not be awarded for the spring semester, and, graduate applications turned in after July 15 will not be awarded for the summer semester.

How much aid will I receive?
That will depend upon which Ministry Student Grant/Scholarship you qualify, apply, and are approved for. The First Year Baptist and BGCT Ministry Grants are provided by funds from the BGCT and are $50 per semester hour. The grant will increase to $75 per semester hour for junior and senior BGCT students majoring or minoring in Biblical Studies, Christian Studies or Christian Ministries. The DBU Ministry Scholarship, provided directly from DBU funds, is $52 per semester hour. The Master of Arts in Christian Education, Master of Arts in Christian Education: Childhood Ministry, Master of Arts in Christian Education: Student Ministry, Master of Arts in Global Leadership, and Master of Arts in Worship Leadership grants are $100 per semester hour and the Ph.D. in Leadership Studies Ministry Concentration grant is $150 per semester hour. DBU matches these graduate grants given by the BGCT with another $100 per semester hour, provided directly from DBU funds.

Why am I required to check my DBU email address?
All DBU students are required to check their DBU email address regularly. Important communication relative to ministry students is sent to grant/scholarship recipient's DBU email accounts throughout the year.

Who can I thank for the Grant/Scholarship?
Grant/scholarship recipients may send a 'thank you' to Dr. Joe Mosley, Director of Ministry Students. The Ministry Student Office will be more than happy to forward your expression of gratitude to the appropriate DBU and BGCT persons.
