PRINCIPAL CERTIFICATION

The state Principal Certificate qualifies an individual for the principalship in grades one through twelve and for all positions in the central administration office except the superintendency. The certification requires a master's degree, two years of teaching experience in an accredited school, and passing the state Principal TExES. Following is the list of courses required for this certificate:

Core Courses
EDUC 6302, 6304, 6306, 6308;

Specialized Preparation
EDAD 6301, 6311, 6312, 6313, 6314, 6315, 6316, 6317

Internship
EDAD 6389
Application for the internship must be made one semester prior to the semester of enrollment. The internship will occur in the final fall or spring semester prior to graduation.

READING SPECIALIST

Individuals with secondary certification must take six hours of elementary education courses. Individuals with elementary certificates must take six hours of secondary education courses. After completing this degree, successfully passing the Reading Specialist TExES, and completion of three years of accredited teaching experience, a student may receive the Reading Specialist Certificate.
