Stephen Holcomb is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at DBU. He holds the DMA in Conducting from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also holds the MM in Music History and the BME (Music Education) from Baylor University in Waco. In 2001, Dr. Holcomb was recognized by the faculty as the DBU Outstanding Professor of the Year for excellence in teaching. Dr. Holcomb is a member of the American Choral Director’s Association, Texas Choral Director’s Association, Music Educators National Conference, and the Texas Music Educator’s Association, as well as Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Professional Music Fraternity.

Dr. Holcomb conducts the University Concert Chorale, DBU Grand Chorus, and LEGACY Ensemble. Under Dr. Holcomb’s direction the Choral Ensembles enjoy a national reputation for excellence. These ensembles have presented concerts in London, Edinburgh and at such venues as St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Italy, the Dom Cathedral in Salzburg, St. Stefan’s Cathedral in Vienna, and the National Cathedral. Stateside, these choirs have performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall, The White House Christmas Open House, the Texas Music Educator’s Association convention in San Antonio, Texas, and several stateside concert tours. Dr. Holcomb has served as guest clinician and conductor for various groups including All-Region Choirs/Concerts and the Texas Baptist All-State Youth Choir. He has conducted numerous choral concerts in Dallas’ world-renown Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center including the Singing Men of Texas’ Anniversary Gala and Handel’s Messiah with the Park Cities Baptist Church Choir and Orchestra. The DBU Chorale and Orchestra presented a major choral concert at the Meyerson in 2001 and they also provided choral music for the memorial service for legendary Dallas Cowboys Coach, Tom Landry at the Meyerson in 1999. In 2005, Dr. Holcomb conducted the premiere performances of Mozart's Don Giovanni with the newly formed Living Opera. In 2008, the University Concert Chorale will be traveling to Paris to perform at various cathedrals and churches including Notre Dame.

In addition to his choral conducting, Dr. Holcomb serves as conductor/director for DBU’s Music Theatre Practicum productions of Broadway musicals including such shows as Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, Carousel, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Hello! Dolly, and Beauty and the Beast . He has also served as musical director/conductor for performances by the DBU Opera Theatre such as Hansel and Gretel, Gianni Schicci, Falstaff, Dido & Aeneas, and The Mikado.
